Background: Sonamling Tibetan Settlement Ladakh Office encompasses 12 camps in Leh and 9 nomadic clusters in Jangthang with more than 7000 population. In 2020, the residents of Camp No. 02 voluntarily initiated the construction of a baby room to enhance child education and health. This initiative was in alignment with the Anganwadi scheme promoted by the Government of India, which focuses on the holistic development of children, including their physical, cognitive, social, and emotional well-being. This has a really significant impact on the early childhood education and encourages the parents to send their child in baby room.
The Anganwadi Ladakh Office mandated that the kitchen of the baby room be separate from the crèche itself. Consequently, the Department of Home, CTA, was approached to seek sponsorship for the construction of the kitchen. In November, the DOH allocated the budget for the construction of the kitchen, prompting immediate action. The project was successfully completed in March 2024 and inaugurated by Chief Representative Officer Mr. Dhondup Tashi, along with 11 members of the project committee. The leader of Camp No. 02 expressed deep gratitude to the Department of Home CTA and Tibet Fund for sponsoring the project, recognizing its significant impact on public welfare and the socio-emotional development of children.
Current Status: The crèche room is currently utilized by both Tibetan and local communities, fostering cooperation and coordination between them. The UT Ladakh has provided excellent facilities in Anganwadi, including the provision of two local caregivers.

The construction of the separate kitchen room has not only enhanced the facilities of the crèche but has also contributed to the overall well-being and development of the community.
