Youth Empowerment Support (YES) section sends 28 young people for skill training at ITI

Youth Empowerment Support (YES) section of the Department of Home (DoH), CTA sends 28 young Tibetan youth from 13 different Tibetan settlement for a long term skill training at Tibetan Private Industrial Training Institute (ITI) based in Selakui, Dehradun. These 28 young people have started their training from December 2020.

This is the 2nd year program in running through a collaboration between the Department of Home (DoH) and Tibetan Children Village (TCV) as the Department has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the TCV for 25% reservation of its total annual seats at ITI to be allocated to the Department of Home, CTA every year.

The Department makes an announcement of its reserved seats through the Tibetan Settlement Offices (TSO) every year and selects interested youth for training. The main objective of the program is to address the issue of unemployment and cater to the needs of the school & college dropouts for a skill training to promote employment and make them self-reliant. The program also assists all trainees with industrial Training, “On the job” Training and permanent placements in possible cases.

The program includes facilities like accommodation, dining, library, 24-hour WIFI and various sports facilities. Various extra curriculum activities like annual inter homes cultural songs and dance competition, quiz, extempore, debates, celebration of Yoga and etc. are organized at ITI for students to develop their skills and confidence to enhance their employability skill.

13 trainees who were selected in the 1st year program in 2019 have successfully completed their training and most of them will be entering the job market soon. The ongoing pandemic has affected their industrial training and placement as well.

Tibetan private ITI, Selakui, Uttrakhand, was founded with the objective of providing the Tibetan youth with a wide range of technical skills in various trades so that they can serve in industries and community centers in India and set up their own business for self-employment. Tibetan Private ITI (https://tibetanprivateiti.com/) is directly managed & administered by Tibetan Children Village (TCV). Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) are post-secondary schools in India and are recognized by the Government of India to provide training in various trades to the unemployed youth.

The program is funded by the USAID through SARD and the Tibet Fund.
