Yarlung Sothang Best Farmer and Young Farmer Award for the year 2022

This year Yarlung Sothang and Young Farmer Award was presented to farmers during the commemoration of Noble Peace Prize Day on 10th December 2022. As per the norms of the selection, Department of Home came up with the final decision to confer these awards to two farmers in recognition of their outstanding achievements in the field of agriculture activities.

Mr. Lhakpa Tsering, from Odisha Phuntsokling Settlement, was the recipient of the Yarlung Sothang Best Farmer award for the year 2022 and has been awarded a sum of 1,00,000/- rupees cheque prize along with a traditional Tibetan painting (Thangka).

During his lifetime, he has been fully devoted to agriculture activities and worked tirelessly for the better sustainability of agricultural activities. He is a farmer with an innovative mind, a dedicated and energetic farmer who has cultivated lemon grass for around 35 acres of land and extracted oil from Lemon grass with the help of a distillation unit. All the production of oil is supplied to an outside firm that earns a major income by selling Lemon grass oil.

This year, the best young farmer award 2022 was conferred to Mr. Lobsang Gyaltso from the Bylakuppe Lugsam settlement with a sum of 1,00,000/- rupees cheque prize along with a traditional Tibetan painting (Thangka) as well. He is a young energetic and progressive farmer, who has cultivated 33 acres of various cash crops including Areca nut, palm oil, Coffee & pepper, and Banana. Other than that, he owns a nursery farm and prepares saplings for marketing as well. Moreover, he has encouraged and guided other farmers to engage in different agricultural practices.

The awards are funded by German Aid to Tibetans.
