Under the leadership of Representative Office of Tibet, Tibetan Settlement Officers have initiated necessary preventive measures in their respective settlements and in March Nepal’s COVID-19 Tibetan Response Group (CNTRP) was formed to ensure uniformity, effectiveness and efficiency in carrying out their preventive works. This group consists of Tibetan Representative of Nepal as its chairman and all the Tibetan Settlement Officers and concerned staff of Snow Lion Foundation as its members.
The first virtual meeting was held on March 25, 2020, since then CNTRP has held 21 virtual meeting scheduled every Wednesday. During the meeting, each member gave report of the weekly prevention work and put forth their challenges and difficulties faced in their work. They also discussed and formulated new programs and guidelines necessary for the future.
On July 29, 2020, at the invitation of Representative Mr. Tsultrim Gyatso, Chairman of CNTRP, Home Kalon Mr. Sonam Topgyal Khorlatsang attended and addressed the 21st virtual meeting of the CNTRP. In his address, Home Kalon reminded the members how the COVID-19 was first originated in China’s Wuhan city under mysterious circumstances and how the world outside failed to sense the danger posing from China and how we saw ourselves in a lock-down situation.
With the rise in COVID-19 cases in places all across India post the relaxation of the lock-down, he expressed the danger of COVID-19 cases crossing 30 to 40 lakhs in India. So he urged the members to follow the necessary preventive measures punctiliously as it is the best way to keep ourselves safe and healthy in the absence of vaccine.
He reassured that the Central Tibetan Administration is taking the necessary measures to check the spread of the virus and is well prepared in case any serious problem should reach the settlements. Moreover, he guided them to prioritize their efforts in reaching out to the destitute who find it difficult to access the various provisions made possible by the Central Tibetan Administration through the Tibetan Settlement Offices.
Home Kalon concluded his address by extending appreciation and applause to those medical staffs and volunteers who have come forward at the front-line in dealing with this fight against COVID-19 pandemic.
