Flooding and Damage in Tibetan Residential Areas of Kullu District

The incessant rainfall in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh since July 7, 2023, has resulted in severe flooding and damage in the Tibetan residential areas of Kullu Dobhi, 15 Mile, and Dobhi.

The heavy rainfall caused the river Beas to overflow, leading to flooding in the Tibetan residential areas mentioned above. As a result, several houses were destroyed, and significant damage was incurred. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported so far.

Consequently, the Department of Home, CTA held an urgent administrative meeting, chaired by the Executive Secretary  to discuss and deliberate on remedial measures and it was decided that an emergency relief fund of 5 lakhs would be allocated through the Kullu Settlement Office to provide relief assistance to the affected families in the disaster-stricken areas.

Following the directive from the Home Department, settlement office-led settlement representatives have been actively engaged in carrying out emergency relief services to the distressed families.

While the rainfall has receded to some extent, the Department is awaiting the complete cessation of rainfall to conduct a thorough assessment of the disaster-affected areas to carry out necessary renovations and the construction of a retaining wall to safeguard the residents from future disasters.
