Farmer’s training on Kiwi Pruning at Tenzingang, Bomdila

Tenzingang 12th January 2024:  Tenzingang Tibetan Settlement Office conducted practical on Kiwi Pruning for interested farmers at AEO demo Farm and Mr. Dhondup Namgyal farmer from Camp no.1 on 11th January 2024 arranged by AEO Kelsang Wangmo. Mr. Tenzin Chodup was invited as a resource person in the morning session 27 farmers gathered in AEO demo farm and started training with introduction by the Settlement Officer Mr. Rapten Tsering. He talked about future scope of Kiwi cultivation in the Settlement and urged farmers to involve active participation during the training.

Mr. Tenzin Chodup, resource person had talked about “Kiwi Pruning” Six varieties of Kiwi Hayward, Abbot, Allison, Bruno, Monty & Tamori is planting in this area. Tamori is male kiwi plant which needs to be planted for cross pollination. One Tamori (male plant) should be planted for eight female kiwi plant. Pruning is done twice a year winter and summer. Winter pruning starts from December to Mid-February and summer pruning in the month of June. High quality fruiting and good production depend upon timely Pruning for kiwi farming. Selection of healthy sapling is top priority and plant have to grow straight till Trellis. From the beginning of planting keep two main branches on Trellis then maintain 10 side branches for better and easy pruning in long term.
