Project Description & Progress:

In accordance with the 16th Kashag’s “Securing Our Future” Vision Paper, Section 2: Welfare of Tibetans in Exile, Clause 2(a) — Preserving and Promoting Tibet’s Unique Identity, Building Back Compact Communities (BBCC) — the BBCC project forms a key part of the Kashag’s initiative to support the rehabilitation of Tibetans facing housing challenges in dispersed communities across India.

The initiative focuses on providing adequate housing in larger, established Tibetan settlements to promote community consolidation, improve access to basic services, and address socio-economic vulnerabilities. It further aims to strengthen community cohesion while upholding the fundamental objective of preserving and protecting Tibet’s unique cultural identity.

Phendeling Mainpat Tibetan Settlement has been identified as one of the designated locations for the development of residential infrastructure under this initiative. The project involves the construction of housing units for a total of 51 Tibetan households who have opted for relocation to this settlement.

The construction of residential units at Mainpat Tibetan Settlement commenced in September 2025 and is scheduled for completion by January 2028. As per the agreement with the contractor, Karma Yeshi, the first phase of construction has achieved a key milestone with the completion of 10 residential units on 20 March 2026.

Currently, work is in progress to provide essential services, including electricity and water connections, to the completed units. Upon completion of these installations, the houses will be handed over to the respective beneficiaries.

Phase 1st construction activities have been completed as per plan (10 residential units with budget Rs. ₹ 1,14,97,530). The project has now advanced to Phase 2nd, with site preparation underway for the construction of an additional 30 residential units.
