- Overview of the project:
This project aims to refurbish and replace the deteriorated windows of the Local Tibetan Assembly (LTA) and Ex-Army office in the Paonta Cholsum Tibetan Settlement, located in Paonta Sahib, Himachal Pradesh. The windows of the LTA and Ex-Army office have not been renovated for decades and are currently in a severely dilapidated state—cracked, rusted, broken, and unstable. These conditions pose significant risks, including water seepage, dust intrusion, and potential safety hazards due to weakened frames that may collapse.
To address these issues, the project will involve the installation of new UPVC sliding window frames to enhance safety, functionality, and the structural integrity of the offices. The upgraded windows will also provide improved protection against environmental factors such as wind, rain, and dust, while helping to prevent unauthorized access and theft.
Ultimately, this renovation will ensure a safer and more functional working environment for the administrative staff and better serve the needs of the community.
- Activity details:
The core activity of the project involved the replacement of all old and damaged windows in the Local Tibetan Assembly and Ex-Army office. The actual project was conducted on 27th August as per agreement basis. The existing windows, which were no longer structurally sound, were removed. In their place, UPVC 2 Track sliding window frames were installed. These windows are known for their durability, weather resistance, and minimal maintenance requirements. The activity was carried out by workers, who ensured proper installation, sealing, and alignment for maximum performance. The entire process included procurement, dismantling of old units, installation of new frames, and post-installation inspection. A total of 7 UPVC sliding windows have been installed — 4 windows at the LTA office and 3 windows at the Ex-Army office. However, the project was successfully completed on 22nd September, 2025.
- Project Outcome/Result:
- Improved Infrastructure: All old, unsafe window units have been successfully replaced with modern UPVC sliding windows.
- Enhanced Safety and Comfort: The new windows eliminate the risk of structural failure, offering a safer environment for office staff and visitors.
- Better Protection from Elements: The upgraded windows now provide reliable protection from rain, dust, and wind, significantly improving the internal office environment.
- Long-Term Durability and Reduced Maintenance: The installed UPVC windows are low-maintenance and designed to last for many years, reducing future repair or replacement costs.
- Aesthetic and Functional Upgrade: Beyond safety, the renovation has improved the overall appearance and functionality of the LTA and Ex-Army offices.
- Lesson Learned:
While working on this project, we realized the importance of timely and regular maintenance. Because the windows were not repaired for many years, they became unsafe and caused many problems. If repairs had been done earlier, it would have saved both time and money. This shows how regular checks and small repairs can prevent bigger issues in the future.
Another important lesson was about using the right materials. Choosing strong, weather-resistant UPVC windows has made the office safer and more comfortable. These windows will also last longer and need less maintenance, which saves costs over time.
We also learned that having a clear and accurate budget is very helpful. Knowing the costs and what materials were needed made the project run smoothly without delays. Lastly, this project showed that even small parts of a building, like windows, are very important for the safety and comfort of everyone using the space. Taking care of these details should be part of every building’s regular maintenance plan.
