Settlement Background: Paonta Cholsum settlement was established in year 1967 at Bhuppur Paonta Sahib in Himachal Pradesh State for 105 families with initial population of 475 Tibetan Refugees. Over the period, the population has increased. Currently, the settlement consists of 125 families with a total population of over 1000 including the residential school and monks. The settlement is located at the foothills of Himalayas, geographically known as Doon Valley at an elevation of 1000 ft above sea level. The area is known for its extreme climatic condition with Temperature ranging from 50 C – 460 C and Approximately 90% of settlers earn their livelihood by selling winter sweaters across various states in India. This seasonal trade is the primary source of income, enabling them to support their children’s education and meet daily living expenses. Problems statement: Paonta Cholsum Tibetan Settlement is situated near at the bank of river Yamuna in Paonta Sahib. In recent times, one of the major issues faced in our locality is frequent power outages and inadequate electricity supply. These power disruptions make it difficult for pedestrians to commute safely at night. Furthermore, the lack of electricity increases the risk of unfortunate incidents such as theft, accidents, and even snake or reptile attacks. Another ongoing challenge faced by residents is the shortage of electricity during the extremely hot summer months, when temperatures soar above 40°C. This not only hampers domestic chores but also disrupts office work. Additionally, the absence of sufficient street lighting in and around the settlement creates an unsafe environment for residents, increasing the chances of robberies and other crimes. Therefore, the solar street light project is an essential component of our initiative to address frequent power outages and reduce the high costs associated with electricity consumption. In addition, at present, our existing sound system equipment is both outdated and poorly functioning. This has led to significant difficulties in making announcements and addressing the public during gatherings, primarily due to the poor condition of the microphones and other essential audio equipment. The inadequacy of the current system often renders our messages inaudible and hampers effective communication during public events. |
