Background: ::
Mrs. Tenzin Jangchup, 38 years old, resides at Camp No. 2, House No. 25 with her elderly father, Mr. Tsering Bhakto (76), and mother, Mrs. Kalden Choedon (76). They live in a house that is in extremely poor condition, having been built several decades ago. They face significant challenges due to inadequate shelter, particularly during the monsoon season. Rainwater seeps into their rooms through leaks and small holes in the roof. Despite frequent repairs, the house remains unsafe and uncomfortable. Due to these hardships, we reached out to the Vimala Association in Italy for financial support to construct a new home.
Mrs. Jangchup has been struggling with mental instability for many years. She is a widow and has one son, Tenzin Choezin, who is 19 years old. Born out of wedlock, he has completed his schooling and is currently pursuing a chef’s course at ITI (Vocational Institute) in Selakui, Dehradun, Uttarakhand State.
The family of four relies solely on two or three domestic cattle for their income, leaving them below the poverty line. Despite annual renovations to address the difficulties faced during the summer, they continue to struggle—especially during monsoons—when rainwater seeps into their rooms. These challenges are particularly difficult for the elderly and the children in the family.
We are deeply grateful to Ms. Debbie La, the president of the Vimala Association, Italy, for assisting with Mrs. Jangchup’s medical expenses over the past few years. Her support has significantly alleviated the family’s financial burdens.
Project Implementation
The new housing construction project was stared on 1st June 2024 and successfully completed on 10th February 2025.
The construction work was carried out by skilled masons and laborers under the supervision of the settlement officer, dealing staff, and the respected camp leader. Regular monitoring ensured the successful and timely completion of the house.
Project Outcomes
The newly constructed house has significantly improved the living conditions of Tenzin Jangchup’s family. Now, they have a stable and comfortable home, especially benefiting the elderly grandmother, who can now live peacefully in a secure and suitable living home. The house consists of four rooms and a combined kitchen and living room. This project has brought immense happiness to the family in a safe and comfortable home. It marks a new beginning for them, free from the stress of their previous poor living conditions.
