Completion Report: Drinking Water Project at Ladakh Jangthang Goyul, Kagshung (Dungti), Sumdo & Samed

This project aimed to enhance water accessibility and promote sustainable energy in high altitude strategic location of Jangthang Kagshung (Dungti), Goyul, Sumdo, and Samed by installing hand pumps, converting a hand pump to a submersible pump, and installing solar water heaters.

Work Completed:

  1. Hand Pump Installation:
Installed hand pumps at Jangthang Goyul (1), Kagshung (2), and Samed (1) to improve access to clean water. The pumps were fully tested for functionality.
  2. Submersible Pump Conversion at Jangthang Sumdo:
Replaced the hand pump at Sumdo with a submersible pump to improve water extraction efficiency. The system was fully installed and tested.
  3. Solar Water Heater Installation:
Installed three solar water heaters at Jangthang Kagshung to provide eco-friendly hot water solutions. Each system was tested for efficiency.

Outcome:

The hand pumps and submersible pump are operational, providing reliable water access and reducing the need for long-distance fetching. The solar water heaters offer sustainable hot water, promoting energy efficiency.

Conclusion:

The project has successfully improved water access and introduced renewable energy solutions, benefiting the local community. Funded by Wisdom Spring in collaboration with Phen-dey Foundation, USA and the American Himalayan Foundation (AHF), USA.
