Sikyong Penpa Tsering Inspects Tibetan Homes School in Rajpur, Emphasises Younger Generation’s Responsibility as Tibetans

On the afternoon of 28 September 2024, Sikyong Penpa Tsering visited the Rajpur Tibetan Homes School for an inspection tour.

Sikyong was welcomed by the General Secretary of Mussoorie Tibetan Homes School, Tenzin Choklang, Deputy Secretary Migmar Tsering, Principal of Rajpur Tibetan Homes School Gyaltsen Choklang, along with the staff and students.

After visiting the classrooms and various departments of the school, he delivered a speech to the staff and students.

After completing the tour, a gathering of teachers, staff, and students was held in the school’s assembly hall. Principal Gyaltsen Choklang delivered a welcome speech and presented a report on the school’s activities. Then, Sikyong Penpa Tsering gave his address.

During his speech, the Honourable Sikyong emphasised that Tibetan students should recognise their additional responsibilities, which differ from those of other nationalities. He advised them to work hard in their studies so that in the future, they can become leaders in Tibetan society, including within the Central Tibetan Administration.

Furthermore, he instructed the Tibetan youth to take pride in their nationality and to pay attention to and study Tibetan issues. He stressed their responsibility to raise awareness about the Tibetan cause in the international community. To this end, he advised them to read more books on Tibetan history.

Afterwards, Sikyong presented a slideshow to the teachers, staff, and students, explaining the importance of the Tibetan Plateau for the global environment and geopolitics.

In particular, he emphasised the significance of Tibet’s major rivers for the livelihood of hundreds of millions of people in Asia. He explained how the Chinese government is currently misusing these rivers for political purposes by building dams and other projects.

Following his address, Sikyong visited the Old Age Home affiliated with Tibetan Homes School Foundation, where he met with the elderly residents.

Throughout his official engagements, Sikyong was accompanied by Additional Secretary Tashi Dickey, Department of Home; Settlement Officer of Dehradun Dhondup Gyalpo; Thupten Rigzin from the Social and Resource Development Fund; and Pema Yudon from the Department of Health.
