The Department of Home, Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), initiated a three-day CTA Household Listing Survey 2024 training for enumerators from March 1st to 3rd, 2024. The inaugural ceremony, held at the Community Hall of Ladakh Sonamling Settlement Leh, was graced by CRO Dhondup Tashi as the Chief Guest and Joint Secretary Miss Tashi Dickey from the Department of Home.

The ceremony began with the lighting of the butter lamp and offering a scarf to His Holiness’s portrait. Joint Secretary Tashi Dickey elucidated the importance of the household listing survey, emphasizing its role in shaping effective community welfare programs by collecting essential data on socio-economic status, health, education, and religious practices among Tibetans.

Addressing the challenges of conducting such a survey, she advised enumerators to be patient and maintain a calm disposition, ensuring maximum public participation. Expressing hope for the training’s success, she encouraged participants to seize the opportunity for personal development.

Chief Guest CRO Dhondup Tashi underscored the significance of the survey in understanding the Tibetan community in exile. He emphasized the collective role of enumerators, camp leaders, and Jangthang Gowa in ensuring the survey’s success.

The training, attended by 21 enumerators from Ladakh & Jangthang, along with two staff from the CRO office, aims to prepare participants for the upcoming household survey. This survey will contribute to planning and formulating projects for the overall development of the Tibetan community in India and Nepal.

The Department of Home expressed gratitude to donors, CRO, and all contributors. The household listing survey is set to begin from March 4th to 19th, 2024, at Ladakh Sonamling and Jangthang, supported and funded by USAID and The Tibet Fund.
