Background
Mr. Gaden Chowang, a 56-year-old resident, lives with his wife and two children. Both he and his wife work at Camp No. 4 Kindergarten School. Gaden Chowang serves as a storekeeper, while his wife, Mrs. Sonam Deckyi, works in the community as a daycare crèche caretaker (Nanny).
With their modest income, they have struggled to afford the construction of a new house. Previously, the family lived in a deteriorating home with structural weaknesses. Due to financial constraints, they could only undertake temporary repairs each year to prevent rainwater leakage and cracked walls. However, these repairs were not long-lasting, and the family continued to face housing difficulties.
Recognizing their urgent need for a stable home, this construction project was initiated to provide them with a safe, comfortable, and well-structured living space.
Project Implementation
This report presents the successful completion of Mr. Gaden Chowang’s housing construction project, aimed at improving the living conditions of underprivileged families in our settlement. With unwavering support from the Department of Home, Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), and generous funding from the Vimala Association, Italy, we have made significant strides in uplifting families like Mr. Chowang’s.
The construction of Mr. Gaden Chowang’s new house began on 1st June, 2024, and was completed on 25th February, 2025. The project exceeded the original timeline by 15 days due to unavoidable delays. Despite this, the construction work was carried out by skilled masons and laborers under the supervision of the Settlement Officer, relevant staff, and the respected camp leader. Regular monitoring ensured high-quality workmanship and steady progress.
Project Outcomes:
With the successful completion of this project, Mr. Gaden Chowang’s family now has a stable, comfortable, and well-structured home, significantly enhancing their living conditions. The newly constructed house features four rooms along with a combined kitchen and living area, ensuring ample space for the family’s needs.
This initiative has provided immense relief and joy to the family, particularly benefiting the children by offering a conducive environment for their studies. The construction was completed in time for the Tibetan New Year, symbolizing a fresh beginning for the family. Freed from the persistent concerns of structural deficiencies, they can now focus on their daily lives and the well-being of their children.
