Amsterdam: Sikyong Penpa Tsering arrived in Amsterdam on the afternoon of 27 February 2024 after attending the 9th International Tibet Support Group Conference in Brussels.
Upon arrival, Sikyong was received with a warm welcome from President Norbu Tsering and executive members of the Netherlands Tibetan Association; Wangpo Tethong, Executive Director of ICT Europe; Tsering Jampa, Director of Tibet Support Group, Netherlands; and the members of the Tibetan community at Schiphol Station, Netherlands.
Sikyong Penpa Tsering addressed the Tibetan Community at a gathering and shed light on the Middle Way Policy, the Evolution of Tibetan Democracy and the priorities of Central Tibetan Administration. Sikyong also highlighted the recent passage of the Resolve Tibet bill that saw massive support in the US House of Representatives. The talk was followed by a Q&A session and the awarding of Appreciation Certificates to the outgoing members of the Netherlands Tibetan Association.
Sikyong then met and interacted with Tibetan youths, during which he emphasised the ecological significance of Tibet to Asia and the world in general.
On the morning of 28 February, Sikyong had an interview with journalist Jamil Chade from Brazil UOL News media based in Geneva. Thereafter, Sikyong attended a luncheon cum meeting with 16 different Tibet-related organisations in the Netherlands, jointly hosted by the Office of Tibet-Brussels, Tibet Support Group of Netherlands, and the Netherlands Tibetan Association. Sikyong expressed his sincere appreciation to all the representatives of the Tibet-related organisations for their steadfast and continuous support towards the Tibetan cause.
The Tibetan political leader was accompanied by Tenzin Nordhen from the Office of Tibet, Brussels, during his visits to the Netherlands.
