From April 12th to 22nd, 2025, Mr. Thinley Uma, Northeast Section Head, along with Ms. Tenzin Norzin, Northeast Coordinator, undertook an official tour to various nomadic settlements and remote Tibetan areas in North Sikkim. The locations visited included Donguk and Lhonak (nomadic areas), as well as Chatten, Chungthang, Mushithang, Pegong and Thangu regions that are often inaccessible due to poor road conditions, lack of network connectivity, high altitude and harsh terrain.<\/p>\n

The primary objective of the visit was to engage with the nomadic and Tibetan communities, understand their daily lives, and document their struggles and needs. The team aimed to collect demographic data and record the number of livestock in these areas for accurate documentation and future planning.<\/p>\n

During the visit, it was observed that the communities face several ongoing challenges. Chief among them are the vast distances they must travel, the severe scarcity of fodder for their cattle especially during harsh winters and the acute lack of access to medical care. In times of illness, residents rarely receive timely medical assistance due to the remoteness and poor connectivity of these regions.<\/p>\n
