PROJECT DESCRIPTION & PROGRESS: \u2013<\/p>\n

The cluster Tibetan settlements in Kullu are situated in close proximity to the banks of the flood-prone river Beas, making them particularly vulnerable to various natural disasters such as floods and landslides. These calamities have increasingly become a recurring issue due to the significant shifts in climatic conditions.<\/p>\n

The flooding event that occurred between July 8th and July 11th, 2023, caused damages to the houses located along the riverbanks in Kullu. Undoubtedly, residing in such locations poses significant risks to human lives and property. Furthermore, it makes them vulnerable to water accumulation around the properties, which could lead to further damage if not adequately addressed.<\/p>\n

In response to the damage caused by the flooding during the last monsoon season, a construction project to build retaining walls at Dobhi Palrabling and Kullu Yulokoe Tibetan colony was proposed. Both projects were approved in the budget proposal for the 2024-2025 financial year.<\/p>\n

The projects commenced in April and are currently in progress. They are scheduled to be completed in June, well before the onset of the rainy season. The projects have commenced according to the plan and agreement signed between the Kullu Settlement Officer and the contractors.<\/p>\n

The construction of retaining walls will serve as a crucial measure for the security and sustainability of the Tibetan community settled in these areas. This will provide the residents with a sense of security and relief during seasonal heavy rainfalls, as the retaining wall will help mitigate the risk of flood damages and property damage and loss of life. By constructing a proper retaining wall, the area becomes more resilient to future events, which reduces the risk of damage and increases the overall safety of the Tibetan community.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>
