Around 41 Families were able to get the housing and monetary funding for the repair and restoration of the houses in BBMB colony.<\/p>\n<p>On 21st May 1991, His Holiness the Dalai Lama while visiting Manali met with residents of Pandoh on the way and bestowed the name &#8220;Pandoh Tashiling&#8221; as a name for the Pandoh Tibetan Settlement. Responding to the community&#8217;s heartfelt appeal, he instructed the Department of Home to expedite the establishment of a handicraft factory, aiming to provide a sustainable source of income for the residents in the area.<\/p>\n<p>Tashiling Tibetan Handicraft Cum Training and Charitable Society \/the Society Registration Act XXI 1860 25\/1997 was formally established as a Tibetan Refugee Self Help Handicraft Society in 1997 at Pandoh Tashiling Tibetan Settlement. Main purpose of the handicraft society was to facilitate livelihood as most Tibetan refugees then lived on laborious road construction sites (Mandi and Manali) Himachal Pradesh.\u202fIt further aimed to preserve the unique Tibetan culture, customs, traditional carpet waving, carpentry, and so forth.\u202fThe handicraft society was closed in 2000 after lack of new participation from the residents.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-separator size_small\"><\/div><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><p><strong>2 Rewalsar ( tso-pema )<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rewalsar is a revered pilgrimage site, particularly for Buddhist and Tibetan communities. Tibetans began settling around the area in 1967, initially arriving as pilgrims and establishing small businesses. Over time, many chose to reside permanently there though they live in rented accommodations as they do not own their house. Their main source of income is selling winter sweaters and operating as roadside vendors.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-us_1000_500 wp-image-9354\" src=\"https:\/\/centraltibetanreliefcommittee.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/image002-375x500.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"375\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/centraltibetanreliefcommittee.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/image002-375x500.jpg 375w, https:\/\/centraltibetanreliefcommittee.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/image002-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/centraltibetanreliefcommittee.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/image002-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/centraltibetanreliefcommittee.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/image002-150x200.jpg 150w, https:\/\/centraltibetanreliefcommittee.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/image002-540x720.jpg 540w, https:\/\/centraltibetanreliefcommittee.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/image002-113x150.jpg 113w, https:\/\/centraltibetanreliefcommittee.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/image002-75x100.jpg 75w, https:\/\/centraltibetanreliefcommittee.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/image002.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 375px) 100vw, 375px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In 2022, 30 household (Tibetan New Arrival) were permanently moved to Bhuntar as they were allocated new housing facilities by CTA in Bhuntar<\/p>\n<p>Rewalsar is home to 46 sacred caves, which fall under the jurisdiction of Mandi Tibetan Settlement Office. These caves serve as a vital spiritual and permanent residence for nuns, who dedicate their entire lives to continuous prayer and meditation within theses holy confines. The cave is located approximately 10 kilometers from the Rewalsar lake bus station.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, Central Tibetan\u00a0Administration (CTA) is actively engaged in effort to procure the land lease for this area, as per the provisions of Tibetan Rehabilitation policy 2014, this process remains ongoing.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-separator size_small\"><\/div><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><p><strong><u>3 Sundar Nagar<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sundar Nagar holds the distinction as the first area in the Mandi region where Tibetan refugees settled, beginning in 1962. These early residents, primarily small shop owners, lived in rented accommodations. In 1971, the Primary Day School was established in Sundar Nagar under TCV administration, serving Tibetan children from Pandoh, Mandi, Sundar Nagar, and Rewalsar. However, low enrollment led to its closure in 2006. While roadside vendors and small shops once formed the backbone of their income are closed. No Tibetan residents currently live in Sundar Nagar; many have relocated to other settlements across India or to the Rewalsar jurisdiction.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-separator size_small\"><\/div><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><p><strong><u>4 Mandi <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Around 1962, Tibetan started settling around Mandi. Tibetans Residents lives on a rent and are small sweater seller business owners. In summer, Mandi resident families sell readymade garments in Mandi market, some families in Rewalsar run small restaurants and shops in Rewalsar.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-separator size_medium\"><\/div><div class=\"w-text\"><span class=\"w-text-h\"><span class=\"w-text-value\">Facilities in the settlement<\/span><\/span><\/div><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><table width=\"625\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Health &amp; Hospital<\/strong><\/td>\n<td width=\"512\">One modern allopathic dispensary under the Department of Health, CTA &amp; monthly visit from Bir Mentsee-khang.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Monastery<\/strong><\/td>\n<td width=\"512\">The settlement has 4 monasteries &amp; 1 nunnery &amp; 1 Temple: 1. Nyingma monastery, 2 Zigar monasteries, 3. Drikung monastery 4. Zangdo Pari Monastery, 5. Holy cave, 6. Jangchup Choeling Lhakhang (Pandoh)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-separator size_medium\"><\/div><div class=\"w-text\"><span class=\"w-text-h\"><span class=\"w-text-value\">Administrative setup<\/span><\/span><\/div><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><p>Representative:<\/p>\n<p>Tibetan Settlement Officer is the executive body of the three pillars of Tibetan democracy at the local level, replicating the functioning of the CTA, Dharamshala. Tibetan Settlement Officer along with four staff and a nurse appointed by the CTA look after the welfare of the people falling under the direct jurisdiction of the office.
