Introduction<\/span><\/span><\/h2>

Bir Boetsog Tibetan Settlement was established in the year 1967 by Nagnchen Gyalpo and responsible leaders by purchasing land. Later, TIRS in order to improve the livelihood supported to set up woolen factory. The settlement is located at Chowgan Panchayat, P.O Bir, Tehsil Baijnath, Distt Kangra, and Himachal Pradesh 176077.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Since its inception in year 1967, the incumbent settlement officer is number 23.<\/p>\n

a) Settlement Officer in the rank of Under Secretary (CTA)<\/p>\n

Facilities in the settlement<\/span><\/span><\/h2>

Education is thus important as a way of beating the Chinese. As such school was opened in the settlements to educate their children. Tibetan Children Village School Upper was established in 1960\u2019s with the initial of 55 students and at present there are 900 schools going children.<\/p>\n

The settlement has several monastery and nuunery namely<\/strong>. Namgyal Monastery, Kirti Monastry, IBD, Nechung Monastery, Gyutoe Monastery, Gadong Monastery, Tsichok ling monastery, \u00a0Gaden Choeling nunnery, Dolma Ling, Shugseb Nunnery, Jangchup Choeling, Shalu Monastry. Rigzin Namdoling, Karma Drubgyu Ling.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Location and Distance<\/span><\/span><\/h4>

The Office is 28 kms away from the main city of Palampur. It\u2019s located at the height of 1,300 meters above sea level. The average temperature of the area is 320 Celsius during summer and 100 Celsius during winter.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Livelihood and settlement:<\/span><\/span><\/h4>

The settlement has recently added among the The main sources of livelihood of the people are petty business during summer like sweater\/garment business, tea stall, grocery shop, cafe and house rent. The major source of income for majority of the family is winter sweater selling business.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Schools<\/span><\/span><\/h4>

1. Sambhota Tibetan Primary Day School, Bir The school is started on 1st March, 1969 by TIRS ( Tibetan Industrial Rehabilitation Society). It is a day school from nursery to class III. Currently there are 74 children (Male: 35, Female: 39). Out of 9 staffs, 7 are teaching staff and 2 non-teaching staffs.<\/p>\n

2. TCV Suja School, Suja Administered by the Tibetan Children’s Village. A residential school till class X. Currently there are 402 Children (Male: 198, Female 204) supported by 71 staffs, both teaching and non-teaching.<\/p>\n

3. Kunkyap Creche: This creche was started in 1975 by the Bir Tibetan Society to facilitate mothers and working women of the factory then and later it was handed over to settlement office to administer. The number toddlers coming to centre varies every year. The creche enroll child of all working woman in schools, clinics and all 3 settlements, BTS, Dege and Nangchen, Chauntra. The creche has two ayahs.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Health Clinics<\/span><\/span><\/h4>

1. Tibetan Primary Health Care Centre, Bir. The health centre was established in 1967. The health centre is run by the Tibetan Voluntary Health Association (TVHA) or Department Of Health, CTA.<\/p>\n

2. Druzin Tibetan Medical and Astro Institute (Men-Tse-Khang). The branch of the central Tibetan Medical and Astro Institute based at Dharamsala was started in 4th February, 1987. Currently there is 2 Doctors, 1 Dispenser and 1 accountant.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Monasterie<\/span><\/span><\/h4>

1. Pal Sakya Dirru Monastery, Bir. The full name is Pal Sakya Diru Samdup Dechen Choekhorling. The monastery is registered as Bir Sakya Lama Society on 26th May, 1982 as registered society under registration no. 2633\/82 in Himchal Pradesh.<\/p>\n

Monastery is under the guidance of the 15th Gyalsay Tulku Rinpoche and the 14th Dungyud Rinpoche.<\/p>\n

2. Drikung Kagyu Monastery, Bir. The main monastery is based at Rewalser called Wogmin Thupten Shedrupling. The 3rd H.E. Lho Ontul Rinpoche in 1971 established the Wogmin Thupten Shedup Ling in Rewalsar, India. Registration Number 5601\/86 is registered under the H.P. Cooperative Society Act XXI, 1860, as a non-profit & a charitable organization.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Bir Tibetan Society<\/span><\/span><\/h4>

The society was registered on 30th Oct, 1967 under Society Registration Act 1860 (XXI of 1860) with registered no 48\/67.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

\u00b7 Local Tibetan Assembly: The first LTA members were elected in year 1993. Currently there are 15 elected LTA members.<\/p>\n

\u00b7 Tibetan Freedom Movement (BRDL) The BRDL was formed in year 1972. There are 3 elected members as of now.<\/p>\n

\u00b7 Regional Women Association Started in year 1985.<\/p>\n

\u00b7 Regional Tibetan Youth Congress Started in year 1986<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Official and Non-official Association<\/span><\/span><\/h4>

Railway Station:<\/strong> The nearest broad gauge railway station is at Pathankot, which is 142.2 km from Bir. Airport: Kangra Airport at Gaggal in Dharamshala is the nearest airport, which is 67.6 km from Bir.<\/p>\n

Chandigarh International Airport (260 km away):<\/strong> If you are looking for more flight options, Chandigarh is a large airport that offers domestic and international flights. From Chandigarh, you can either rent a car or take a bus to Bir.<\/p>\n

Taxi:<\/strong> Private taxis are available directly from the Kangra airport, Delhi, railway station which takes you to Bir without any hassle. The journey hours depends on from where you depart and on traffic and road conditions. Buses: There is direct Volvo Buses from Delhi to Bir almost every day. From Dharamsala for a more economical option, you can take a local bus from the nearest city Dharamshala or Kangra, which will drop you at Baijnath, a short distance from Bir.
