It has a spectacular setting, being close to the perennial snowline and built along a spur of the Dhauladhar mountain range. When HH the 14th Dalai Lama fled Tibet in 1959 after the Chinese occupation, Dharamsala became his new home and the base of the Tibet Government-in-Exile. The town is today often called Little Tibet, preserving Tibet\u2019s religious and cultural heritage, keeping the Tibetan cause alive internationally, and serving as the focal point for the 100,000 Tibetans scattered in refugee settlements all over India. Many Tibetans have made McLeodganj their home, and therefore the town has a strong Tibetan influence; crimson-robed monks on their way to the monasteries are a common sight.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Settlement Location:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is located at Mcloed Ganj twon of Himachal Pradesh. Tipa road normally call as Toepa camp, Bhagsu road Kyirong camp. Forsyth Ganj camp, Thardoeling camp and lower mcloed Ganj. At presently Tibetans are residing in every corners of Dharamshala like, Norbulinka, Gyutoe, Chamunda. Gamru, Meethanla. Daramkot road.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Settler\u2019s Livelihood:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Most of the original families have a small restaurants, small road side business. Hotels and shops Besides that seasonal sweater selling etc.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-separator size_small\"><\/div><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><p><strong>Facilities in the settlement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Education is thus important as a way of beating the Chinese. As such school was opened in the settlements to educate their children. Tibetan Children Village School Upper was established in 1960\u2019s with the initial of 55 students and at present there are 900 schools going children.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The settlement has several monastery and nuunery namely.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Namgyal Monastery, Kirti Monastry, IBD, Nechung Monastery, Gyutoe Monastery, Gadong Monastery, Tsichok ling<\/p>\n<p>monastery, Gaden Choeling nunnery, Dolma Ling, Shugseb Nunnery, Jangchup Choeling, Shalu Monastry. Rigzin Namdoling, Karma Drubgyu Ling.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-separator size_small\"><\/div><h3 class=\"w-text\"><span class=\"w-text-h\"><span class=\"w-text-value\">Administrative Setup:<\/span><\/span><\/h3><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><p>Representative: The settlement officer who is directly elected by general public since from 1992.
